Prof. Mahfuzul Hoque Chowdhury made new CIU VC

Dr. Mahfuzul Hoque Chowdhury, a renowned professor of Political Science, University of Chittagong (CU) and former faculty member of Northeastern University, USA, has been appointed as Vice Chancellor of Chittagong Independent University (CIU).

Dr. Chowdhury was born in Padua Union of Lohagara Upazilla, Chittagong in 1953. He received his PhD in Law & Public Policy from Northeastern University, Boston MA, USA in 1992. Later, he conducted his post doctoral research in Duke University, USA in 2013, Tokyo University, Japan in 2005-2006 and University of Southern Illinois, USA in 2000. He has published several research articles in national and international journals and is the author of many scholarly books. He has presented may research papers to international and national conferences & seminars.

Dr. Chowdhury was awarded Senior Fulbright Fellowship by Dept. of State, USA in 2012, Japan Foundation Fellowship by Govt. of Japan in 2005, Senior Fulbright Fellowship, USA in 2000, Salzburg Seminar Fellowship in 1998. He was also awarded Chittagong University Chancellor’s Gold Medal in 1976.

Dr. Chowdhury was awarded Senior Fulbright Fellowship by Dept. of State, USA in 2012, Japan Foundation Fellowship by Govt. of Japan in 2005, Senior Fulbright Fellowship, USA in 2000, Salzburg Seminar Fellowship in 1998. He was also awarded Chittagong University Chancellor’s Gold Medal in 1976.

Apart from teaching, Dr. Chowdhury discharged the responsibility as Director, Social Science Research Institute, Chairman of Political Science Dept., Member of Board of Advanced Studies and Academic Council at CU, UGC nominated Syndicate Member and Academic Council Member in private universities. He has the experience of working as Consultant in UNDP on several occasions.

In personal life, Dr. Chowdhury is married with one daughter.
