Chittagong, October 30 — The Creative Writers’ Club of Chittagong Independent University (CIU) hosted a special career talk titled “How To Pursue A Career In Literature?” on Thursday. The event revolved around a timeless question—how can one truly make a career out of writing? The session was gracefully anchored by Mumtahana Islam, Media Secretary of the club.
Held at the CIU Auditorium in Jamal Khan, the event featured young writer and Assistant Professor of Eastern University, Abdullah Al Fahad, as the keynote speaker. He spoke with quiet honesty about his own literary journey—his struggles, inspirations, and the practical paths toward building writing as a profession.
“Writing,” said Fahad, “is not a story of instant success. It’s born from patience, deep reading, and self-questioning. If literature becomes a way of discovering your own truth, that is the real success.”
Admired both as a translator and as an original author, Fahad’s translated works include 1000 Yards, The Giver, and The Call of the Wild. His novels Shohor, Norok, Casa Diablo, and Bullet Kingba Bhalobasay have already found love among readers. A graduate in Anthropology from the University of Dhaka, Fahad now teaches at Eastern University.
The session was presided over by Professor Charmain Rodriguez, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at CIU. In her remarks, she said, “Creativity is not just a gift of intellect—it’s a social responsibility. If our youth learn to understand society through their writing, literature can become their strongest weapon.”
Shakila Mustaque, moderator of the Creative Writers’ Club, shared that the goal of this program was to show young people a clearer path toward pursuing writing professionally.
The event concluded successfully, with CtgPost and Gonotar as media partners, The Common Run as content partner, and Nobojagoron as community partner. Certificates were awarded to participants by the Dean, club moderator, and faculty members—marking an evening where words met purpose, and passion met possibility.
