The CIU Programming Club hosted an unforgettable seminar featuring the incredible Anisul Islam, whose motivational journey of overcoming adversity to achieve success left attendees truly inspired. During the seminar, Mr. Islam also conducted an insightful session on the roadmap to becoming a Full-Stack Developer, providing invaluable guidance to students about their future career paths.

The School of Science and Engineering (SSE), organized an enlightening lecture as part of its SSE Lecture Series on December 5, 2024. The event featured Dr. Abul Kalam Md. Rajib Hasan, a distinguished Postdoctoral Research Fellow from University College London. Dr. Hasan, an expert in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Biomedical Informatics, shared insights into "Transforming Health Outcome: Application of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Research." During the session, Dr. Hasan discussed his groundbreaking work in NLP, emphasizing its application in extracting actionable health insights and predicting adverse event risks in older adults using electronic health records. His innovative research employs state-of-the-art language models to enhance clinical text processing and health informatics. The seminar began with an introduction to the distinguished speaker by Ms. Samia Muntaha, Lecturer at SSE, who highlighted Dr. Hasan’s achievements in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Biomedical Informatics. Dr. Rubell Sen Goopta, Dean of SSE, presided over the seminar, acknowledging Dr. Hasan's contributions to advancing health informatics through cutting-edge AI research. The event, held at the Minhaj Complex, drew a large audience of students, faculty, and researchers. Dr. Hasan's talk reinforced CIU’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation in science and technology. CIU’s SSE Lecture Series continues to promote innovation and knowledge-sharing in science and technology.
The Institute of Information & Communication Technology, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), and the Chittagong Independent University (CIU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 21, 2024 (Thursday) at CIU Auditorium. IICT, CUET will offer CIU graduates a range of professional certificate courses from different fields under the Enhancing Digital Government & Economy (EDGE) project of ICT Division, Bangladesh. The aim is to develop knowledge-based products and services and to produce manpower and expertise in ICT. The EDGE (Enhancing Digital Government Engagement) project in Bangladesh is a pioneering initiative to revolutionize the country’s governmental services through digital transformation. Launched with the vision of leveraging technology to enhance citizen engagement and streamline administrative processes, EDGE represents a significant step forward in Bangladesh’s journey toward becoming a digitally inclusive society. The project, funded by the World Bank and GoB, is committed to the development of skilled human resources suitable for the fourth industrial revolution; Enacting smart Bangladesh-friendly laws and policies and building a digital economy through innovation, research, and ICT industry development; The area of collaboration consists of positive change through education, innovation, knowledge development, and capacity building focusing on ICT, ensuring the exchange of knowledge, scaling up on innovations and best practices, and cultivating mindful leadership in communities. Prof. Dr. Moshiul Hoque, Director, IICT, CUET, and Mohammad Shafiul Islam signed the MoU on behalf of IICT, CUET. The signing ceremony included participation from Dr. Assef Iqbal, Professor, SSE, CIU, and Ms. Anjuman Banu Lima, Registrar, CIU.
On November 21, 2024, the Institute of Information Technology and Industrial Research (IITIR) which plays a vital role in complementing technical education and industry-focused skill development was officially inaugurated at Chittagong Independent University (CIU). The event was organized by IITIR and attended by prominent figures. The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of CIU, Professor Dr. Nurul Absar, served as the chief guest. Two esteemed special guests graced the occasion: Professor Dr. Mohammed Moshiul Hoque, a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at CUET, Director of IICT and IT Business Incubator, CUET, and Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section, along with Engineer Md. Kawsar Hasan, Chief Works of Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd. The ceremony was chaired by Dr. Md. Sajjatul Islam, Director of IITIR and Assistant Professor in the Department of CSE at CIU. Dr. Rubell Sen Goopta, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering (SSE), as well as Professor Dr. Aseef Iqbal, Professor in CSE at CIU, and Mr. Atiqur Rahman, Assistant Professor & Head of CSE at CIU, highlighted the mission, objectives, and significance of IITIR in fostering academic and industry collaborations. Ms. Anjuman Banu Lima, Registrar of CIU, praised the initiative, expressed her hopes for its success, and assured full cooperation in its future endeavors. During the ceremony, the distinguished guests emphasized the need to develop and transform Engineering knowledge and skills to meet the ever-changing demands of the industry. They highlighted the importance of addressing the gap between academia and industry by aligning knowledge, skills, research, and innovation to bridge this divide. The speakers also stressed the promising career opportunities within the IT sector, facilitated by complementary industrial training and research in the coming decades. Furthermore, they underscored the critical role of integrating research into both academic and industrial domains to drive progress and innovation. The experts’ insights and thought-provoking guidance on industry-academic collaboration have strengthened the foundation of this initiative. As IITIR begins its journey to foster innovation, nurture talent, and contribute to industry-aligned skills and research, may it stay steadfast in its commitment to excellence and collaboration. The event encouraged active participation and proved highly beneficial for the attending students. It concluded with the distribution of certificates to the first batch of students, followed by a vibrant cultural program.
On 14 November 2024, CIU School of Science and Engineering Organized SSE Dean's and Performance Award Ceremony at the CIU auditorium. The event was graced by the presence of Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. M M Nurul Absar as the chief guest. It was chaired by Dr. Rubell Sen Goopta, Dean and Associate Professor of SSE while deans from different schools and Faculty Members, the CIU Registrar also attended the program. Ms. Moumita Das, Manager, SSE and Israt Zaman, Student, CSE Department hosted the event. The cultural performances by the SSE students added charm to the event. This award is a prestigious recognition, awarded to those who demonstrated outstanding academic achievements and achieved highest CGPA in the semester: Autumn 2023 and Spring-2024 and Summer-2024 to celebrate their dedication and hard work in their pursuit of excellence. Besides the students who showed excellence in various sectors such as sports, programming contest, NASA Space app challenge etc. also received the Performance Award. All these students are the assets for CIU (Chittagong Independent University). We believe they will continue to reach new heights and inspire everyone.
