9 th May 2025 was a big day for SSE Alumni for IUB, Chittagong Campus and CIU. The CIU auditorium buzzed with the faculty members, officials, staff, and a vibrant mix of students from various batches (batch 99 - batch 20). The engineers from IUBC to CIU gathered for a highly successful Engineers' Meetup.
It was truly inspiring to hear from our accomplished alumni, who shared valuable insights and suggestions. A key takeaway was the need for stronger bonds between recent alumni and the seniors since 1999. Many things were discussed, and one alumnus proposed an annual event to facilitate this essential networking.
This event highlighted the strong sense of community and commitment to student success that permeated the event. The presence of all faculty members, officials, and staff underscored the university's dedication to fostering these crucial connections within the engineering fraternity. Attendees expressed their eagerness for more such events, recognizing the immense value of these interactions.
TA significant highlight of the meet-up was the enthusiastic engagement of the alumni. They expressed a strong desire to actively support their juniors in navigating the challenges of higher studies and career development. Their willingness to share their experiences and offer guidance promises to be an invaluable resource for current students.
The suggestion put forth by an alumnus to establish an annual event focused on fostering stronger ties between students and seniors resonated deeply with attendees. Furthermore, the proposal to create a formal Engineers' Forum, with a tentative committee of five students already formed, signals a proactive step towards building a sustainable support network. The online participation of many students from different corners of the world further broadened the reach and impact of the event. More than 50 alumni joined through an online platform from all over the world, where students from Australia, the UK, Canada, the USA, Sweden, and Belgium put their valuable comments/observations
This successful Engineers' Meetup at CIU not only facilitated valuable networking opportunities but also solidified the commitment of alumni to invest in the future of the engineering students. The eagerness for more such gatherings through physical presence and online platforms reflects the strong sense of unity and shared purpose within IUBC and the CIU engineering community.
The program was organized by the Dean office, School of Science and Engineering and led by Mr. Atiqur Rahman, Head, Department of CSE. Prof. Dr. Aseef Iqbal, Professor of CSE and Dr. Md. Sajjatul Islam, Associate Professor of CSE, discussed the various issues associated with the Departments and alumni. The program was ended by the closing remarks of the Dean of SSE, Dr. Rubell Sen Goopta.
On March 15, 2025, the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) at Chittagong Independent University (CIU) organized a day-long workshop titled "Master Plan on BAC and BAETE Accreditation." The session was conducted by Prof. Md. Abdur Razzak, PhD, SMIEE, Fellow IEB, Fellow JSPS, who serves as the Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and a Professor in the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Independent University, Bangladesh.
During the workshop, Prof. Md. Abdur Razzak demonstrated Outcome-Based Education (OBE) practices and assessment methods in alignment with the requirements of Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) and Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE). He addressed various challenges associated with OBE-based assessments and discussed potential solutions to overcome them, ensuring the attainment of Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs), Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), and Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) as per BAETE and BAC guidelines.
His presentation covered key aspects such as OBE-based curriculum design, teaching- learning methods, and assessment strategies. He also elaborated on model selection for PLO attainment calculation, course file preparation, CLO (direct) and PLO (direct) calculations, as well as PEO (indirect) assessment. Additionally, he discussed criteria and levels for CLO, PLO, and PEO attainment, instructor feedback review, preparation of the Course Review Report (CRR), and stakeholder surveys—including students, alumni, employers, and the Industry Advisory Panel (IAP)—for continuous quality improvement (CQI).
The workshop encouraged active participation and proved highly beneficial for the esteemed faculty members of SSE. It concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where participants gained valuable insights into OBE-based curriculum practices in accordance with BAETE and BAC standards. The respected Dean of SSE and the Additional Director of IQAC, CIU, were also in attendance.
A special session on Software Design Patterns was successfully held on March 9, 2025, as part of the Software Engineering course. The session was conducted by Mr. Anisul Islam, a renowned Computer Science educator and Full-stack Trainer at Integrify, Finland.
The event took place in a hybrid mode, allowing wider participation. Students attended the session in person from the Multimedia Lab, CIU, while many others joined online via Zoom, making it a well-attended and interactive event. The session was also graced by the presence of Ms. Samia Muntaha, course instructor, and Mr. Habibur Rahman, faculty member, who actively participated and encouraged student engagement. During the session, Mr. Anisul Islam provided an in-depth discussion on Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles, emphasizing core concepts such as Abstraction, Encapsulation, Inheritance, and Polymorphism. He elaborated on why design patterns are essential in software development and how they help in solving recurring design problems, ensuring code reusability, flexibility, and scalability. Mr. Anisul also introduced students to various types of software design patterns and shared real-world examples to demonstrate their practical applications. The session was highly engaging, with participants actively interacting and asking insightful questions. Students appreciated the clear and practical approach of Mr. Anisul in explaining complex software design concepts.
This session was an excellent opportunity for students to enhance their understanding of software design patterns, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation.
On February 14, 2025, the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) at Chittagong Independent University (CIU) organized a workshop on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) titled "Hands- On Knowledge Sharing: OBE Practices and SAR Preparation."
