Chittagong Independent University (CIU) is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment that aligns with global best practices and the unique cultural and societal values of Chattogram. Guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16)—CIU ensures that all students, faculty, and staff have equal opportunities to thrive.
CIU believes that diversity enriches education, drives innovation, and prepares students to engage meaningfully in an interconnected world. Through equity-focused policies, we ensure that all members of our university community—regardless of background, identity, ability, or experience—have access to opportunities, resources, and support systems to achieve their full potential. Our dedication to creating an inclusive environment is to deliver a safe, respectful, and empowering environment for all. We actively work to break down systemic barriers, promote equal opportunities, and implement policies that reflect our commitment to fairness, social justice, and human dignity.
The CIU DEI policy applies to all students, faculty, administrative staff, and stakeholders associated with CIU, including visitors and collaborators from local and international institutions, and is implemented through the following strategies:
Inclusive Education: Integrating DEI principles into curriculum, research, and student support programs.
Equitable Opportunities: Ensuring fair policies in admissions, hiring, and promotions, and encouraging leadership opportunities for women and minorities.
Student support and campus culture: Promoting awareness, inclusivity, and social justice through workshops, events, and mentorship initiatives.
Community Engagement: Collaborating with local and global organizations to advance social equity and supporting community-based initiatives to empower marginalized groups in Chattogram.
Zero Tolerance for Discrimination and Harassment: Strictly prohibiting any bias, discrimination, or harassment through a dedicated DEI committee that will be in charge of enforcing policies, handling complaints, and making improvements all the time.
At CIU, we understand that DEI is not just a policy but a practice that requires collective responsibility. Together, we will work to ensure that every member of our university community can thrive, feel valued, and realize their full potential in a just and equitable world.
